How to stay motivated when studying law?

Studying law (or let’s be real, studying in general), can be a challenging process that leaves you feeling
drained before you even begin 😴 Many law students find it difficult to stay motivated throughout their studies.
With long hours of reading and attending lectures, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and lose focus.
However, we have several practical tips and tricks that can help you stay motivated and on track!

1) Creating a study schedule 🗓
This one may seem obvious, and most people may feel as if they don’t need to do this, but having a schedule
written down is proven to be one of the most effective ways in helping you stay organised and on track! Start
by identifying your most productive study times, and schedule your most challenging tasks during those times.
This will help you stay motivated as you work towards achieving your larger goals.
⭐ TIP: Remember to include scheduled breaks, dividing them into longer breaks and perhaps shorter 15
minute breaks. And most importantly, make it realistic! Study schedules are much easier to follow when they
are actually achievable ☺

2) Set achievable goals 🌟
Following on from the last tip! Setting goals is a great way to stay motivated and focused. Whilst it is important
to dream big, it is also equally as important to set goals that are achievable and realistic. By doing this, you
don’t overwhelm yourself and burn out too quickly. Start by breaking down larger goals into smaller, more
manageable tasks. This will help you stay motivated, and encourage yourself to continue working towards
your bigger goals once you see yourself achieving your smaller goals.
⭐ TIP: Why not reward yourself after you achieve a goal? Even if it’s something small like bubble tea, or that
item you’ve wanted for agesss, treating yourself after you have achieved something on your list is a great
motivation🧋

3) Connect with others 😄
Connecting with others can provide countless benefits when it comes to studying. Although law may seem
competitive and scary at first, everyone is essentially in the same boat- so don’t be afraid to reach out! Joining
a study group or connecting with other law students online not only opens doors to new ideas and
perspectives, but is also a great way to make new friends. Additionally, you can provide support to each other
which can be valuable during stressful times (like when an assignment is coming up 😬) When you work
alongside others who are pursuing the same goals, you can develop long-lasting relationships and feel more
motivated to reach your goals.
⭐ TIP: Discord is a great place to start when connecting with other students. Use the ‘Explore’ function to
find education servers. Also, attending events such as Momentum’s workshops is also beneficial in meeting other law students!

4) Make use of apps 📱
Using study apps can be a great way to stay motivated and focused. With so many productivity apps on the
market, find one that works for you and incorporate it into your study routine. Here are some
recommendations to start you off:
Flora: This is a pomodoro timer app which encourages you to stay focused by growing virtual plants
🌱 You set a timer for a certain amount of time, and during that time period, a plant will grow. If you leave
the app or use your phone during the timer, the plant dies.
Quizlet: Quizlet is a flashcard app that allows you to create your own flashcards or use pre-made sets.
This is especially helpful for law students as you can use this app to quiz yourself on legal terms, cases,
and concepts ⚖
Opal: An award-winning app that blocks apps and sites whilst studying. What’s great about this app is that
it provides you with stats and a focus score so you can track your progress!
Structured: A simple daily planner 🗓 Syncs between your laptop and your phone, and you can even
customise the colours and icons of your tasks

By implementing these tips and strategies, you can stay motivated and focused throughout your law studies
☺ Remember, staying motivated is all about finding what works for you and sticking with it. What works for
someone else may not necessarily work for you, so have a try of all these tips to find which one you like best.
Good luck! ⭐
