Course Breakdown
Otago Group Tutoring
Our teaching team of A+ tutors is based on campus, and they work to provide students with a collaborative and interactive learning environment. They reinforce students’ understanding of the LAWS101 course content, offering lessons and impromptu ‘stand up discussions’ covering the major concepts taught in university lectures. The tutors guide the group to develop critical connections between topics to write effective assessment style answers. The group will be supported in approaching all aspects of their legal studies, exploring strategies and approaches for legal writing, analysis and research. Working with the complex issues which law presents in a group environment lets students develop their skills alongside their peers, in a comfortable and engaging environment. Group tutors provide insights on how lecture content is likely to appear in exams and assessments, and focuses on supporting students to expand their understanding of those core points. Our tutors are experts at creating tutorials which support students to genuinely engage with content, rather than just rote learning it. Group tutorials lead students to develop their own ideas comprehensively, while supporting them to express their thinking in their legal writing and responses. Our goal of stimulating deeper engagement prepares students for assessments by ensuring that they have had both the time and the support to come to a detailed understanding of the content.
